OVERVIEW
The Master of Arts in English at A&M-Central Texas is a flexible, 36-credit hour program designed to help students cultivate a unique professional identity. Through seminars boasting small class sizes and strong faculty mentorship, students can expect to develop expertise in English Studies both in and out of the classroom. Our faculty focuses on helping you contribute to ongoing scholarly conversations and working with you to find relevant conference and publishing opportunities.
Program Level Student Learning Outcomes
- Produce original contributions to the discipline by conducting research
- Analyze texts using critical thinking skills
- Compose discourses adapted to particular scholarly or public audiences for specific purposes
Entry Requirements
Students will be admitted into the MA in English by the faculty once the following application criteria are met:
- Successful admission to graduate school.
- Successful writing sample to the graduate program: Applicants will submit a writing sample that can earn a successful rating on the “writing sample rubric.” The rubric and the process of review are both provided in the program handbook. The writing sample can be a paper from an undergraduate course or something equivalent to that type of assignment.
- An interview with the graduate coordinator, which will be scheduled following review of the writing sample.
Admission Priority Deadlines
August 1 for Fall Semester
December 15 for Spring Semester
May 15 for Summer Semester
Applications received by the priority deadlines will be reviewed in time to register for the next upcoming semester. Applications received after the priority deadline should not expect to be considered in time for the upcoming semester.
