Masters of Science in Nursing

OVERVIEW

The Texas AM University - Central Texas (TAMUCT) Department of Nursing (DON) is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).  The Department of Nursing is proposing to develop a Master’s of Science of Nursing (MSN) in Administration.   

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program at Texas A&M University Central Texas will offer graduate nursing education to the registered nurse who desires to become a change agent, administrator, educator, and innovator in the complex healthcare system. The nurse will receive evidence-based educational preparation to gain the leadership and management skills to lead healthcare professionals and organizations to provide safe and effective care to populations. 

TAMUCT’s DON is an ideal candidate for this MSN program.  The CAS, DON, and graduate school are well established.  TAMUCT’s location is near academic medical centers, a large military medical center, a large Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center, and several large not-for-profit medical centers who consistently need well prepared nurse administrators. In addition, our RN to BSN students frequently ask about graduate opportunities within our department. Moreover, our faculty are doctorly prepared and are frequently in communication with our educational and healthcare partners regarding the needs for graduate prepared nurses. 

Students in this program will engage in core coursework based in research, evidence-based practice, and nursing science.  This content will be applied in courses related to population health, nursing informatics, management theory, financial, healthcare environment, healthcare policy, the role of the nurse administrator.  The program will finish with a Nurse Administrator Seminar Course.  This course will assist the student to synthesize the role of the nurse administrator through practicum experiences and a capstone project. 

MSN Program Goals are to a provide: 

Graduates who are prepared to be leaders and change agents in their fields. 

Graduates who practice sound nursing care based on theory and practice guidelines. 

Graduates who are prepared for doctoral study and nursing certification in desired specialty. 

Graduates who are prepared to be leaders in their community and professional organizations. 

Graduates who are prepared to advocate for their profession, patients, and communities. 

Program Level Student Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  • 1. Leads interprofessional quality improvement initiatives to increase the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare related processes.

    2. Utilizes theory and research support to identify clinical problems and develop evidence-based solutions.

    3. Utilizes evidence-based practice concepts to prevent illness, promote health, and improve the health of patients and populations.


    4. Embraces full scope of nursing practice to serve as leaders in the workplace, community, and health/professional organizations locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

    5. Incorporates ethical principles into all aspects of practice and research projects.

    6. Collaborates with interprofessional care team members to enhance practice and health outcomes.

    7. Incorporates information and technology into practice to promote better communication between patients and colleagues in the healthcare environment.

    8. Advocates for the development of policies to better the health of communities and healthcare operations by community involvement and organization engagement.

In addition to the requirements of the TAMUCT graduate school, the student must:

1.  Holds unencumbered registered nursing license In Texas or other compact state

2.  Graduate from accredited  bachelors of nursing degree program.
